Thanks, Tom. The annoying thing is as I was cleaning them I thought "this isn't clever". It's entirely a mess of my own making but I have squirty anitbiotics so hopefully will be gone before too long.

Nibs suggests wrapping hot water bottle in a jumper (I'd suggest something uber soft like a pashmina but you get the drift) and resting head on it. Warmth is soothing. Nice bath helped. (But don't duck head under. No water in ears, at all).

Ear has gone all creaky, but has stopped hurting now. Will have nurofen on standby in case I wake up in early hours with it.

Was it tablet or soluble painkillers? Soluble kick in fast even when you've had a large portion of chips for tea..

I'll remember that. They've kicked in now - I tend towards nurofen plus (I like the plus) but not that fast acting when combined with cottage pie and veg... and a smoothie... and a bar of chocolate... ummm, yes... just that!
I have a top ear related tip for you. One used Q tip (with liberal coating of ear wax on each bud) cut in half will make two mini flaming torches for the mice to hold when re enacting the final scene from Frankenstein when they corner the cat in the windmill.

Am perking up - only two nurofen today and I was going to add plus two bars of curing dairy milk but got home to discover some greedy porker has troughed my entire chocolate stash!! He would be dead were he not out getting lashed with his mates... I can wait. Revenge is a dish...

Story progresses... after he'd staggered in pissed in wee hours (see today's ranting) and I shouted "... and where's my bloody chocolate?" turned out he'd 'hidden' it. Can you believe it!?!??! Hiding a woman's chocolate stash? When she's hormonally challenged? Does he have a death wish?

I shall try and remember - but it is so tempting to do when you have an itchy ear. Try one of those ear candles you set alight - if it's like my experience, the amount of giggling it induces makes you forget any pain!

That's true about the buds. I have a mate who used to be cleaning his ears with buds all the time, and then he got an ear infection and was in agony on antibiotics for 4 days. The doctor told him it was the budding that did it and to not do it again.
I hope yours fades soon.
