Gin-tastic discovery

by deana24 @ 2008-05-20 - 13:49:19

Either someone's invented the gin fairy or I managed to forget about a bottle of Plymouth's finest while in dissertation hysteria world.

I must have been stockpiling like Princess Margaret. It was all a bit of a blur towards the end *no, not because I was permanently tipsy, cheeky* what with the going to work, going to library, coming home, writing notes up and occassionally running into supermarkets and grabbing stuff.

Anyway, i went into spring cleaning frenzy mode on Sunday and lurking at the back of the recycling cupboard was a full, unopened bottle. Hussah!!

If you need a hand to 'hide' the contents of said bottle, just let me know... ;D

You can have your with bitters, I know. I'm torn myself. I mean it's BEST gin in the world gin, would be shame to drawn it in tonic.. though is summer and G&Ts a lovely in the garden after working day is done... oh the agony...

It's a real trial isn't it? To tonic, or not to tonic...

You could always try crushing some ice and squeezing the juice from a fresh lemon... add the gin and shake well, then pour into a cocktail glass and add a little lime zest... slurp quickly while manufacturing a second shot....

Is that a gin sling?

Nah; just a nice way to drink almost neat gin on a hot day... ;)

In the Wine Vaults, in Banbury, a gin sling was gin, lime and a shot of lemo, but I know that's not accurate.

Don't hold me to this, but...

Gin Sling
2 oz gin
juice of 1/2 lemons
1 tsp powdered sugar
1 tsp water
1 twist orange peel

I prefer a Singapore Sing though...

30ml gin
15ml Heering Cherry Liqueur
7.5ml D.O.M Benedictine
7.5ml Cointreau
120ml Pineapple juice
15ml fresh lime juice
10ml grenadine
dash of Angostura bitters
Garnish: maraschino cherry, pineapple chunk, and orange slice

Just a tad more alcoholic... :P

Tis done and dusted and I await results now. We hear at end of June if all is satisfactory and we can hang up our two-tonne of textbooks.

yes Mahon gin was orinially distilled for the Royal Navy during the brief time when Minorca was British, lovely stuff and good with chilled 7-up.

Mind you with the Plymouth try a Gin and It bung some ice in a glass, measure of Plymouth gin, two of red Vermouth plus a slice of orange, squeeze the orange into the glass and then bung it in too

Lovely

This all sounds like marvellous advice.

I am going on expedition for Mahon tomorrow morning on way to work and will save for BH.

The red vermouth thing sounds delish. Does it have a name?
