I know, I know.. I just needed to get it off my chest and say it (sneakily quite late at night).
I know dance theatre is out there.
But I just think she is the most incredible, moving, beautiful thing that takes emotion and feeling and pieces of history and weaves these mesmiric scenes that pull me from A to Z emotionally.
I'm just popping this one down. It's about Cafe Muller and there's a fair bit of waffle in French for about 2 mins but then it kicks and.. I've seen this live five times and I've cried five times.
It's about (I think) scenes from a cafe Pina Baush witnessed as a child, just after the second world war. Mostly, I think, I find it so moving because we have no idea, really, what it was like in Germany after the war. For us it was all about victory and that's all we see. We forget what it was like there; the loss, the misery, the starvation, the not knowing what to do, locked in patterns of desperation.
This piece of dance shows people trapped and falling in cycles.
Hope you like it.

PS Music - which is just the most beautiful thing, is Purcell, from Dido and Aneas. It's from England's oldest opera, from 1689. How incredible is that!
